The Annunciation
Luke 1:26-38 (BSB)
26 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin pledged in marriage to a man named Joseph, who was of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary.
28 The angel appeared to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 So the angel told her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High."
38 "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it happen to me according to your word." Then the angel left her.
The Visitation
Luke 1:39-45 (BSB)
39 In those days Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judah, 40 where she entered the home of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?"
44 "For as soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord's word to her will be fulfilled!"
The Birth of Jesus
Luke 2:1-20 (BSB)
4 So Joseph also went up from Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, since he was from the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to him in marriage and was expecting a child.
6 While they were there, the time came for her Child to be born. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 And there were shepherds residing in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks by night. 9 Just then, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid! For behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: 11 Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord!"
The Boy Jesus at the Temple
Luke 2:41-52 (BSB)
41 Every year His parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up according to the custom of the Feast.
46 Finally, after three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers.
48 When His parents saw Him, they were astonished. "Child, why have You done this to us?" His mother asked. "Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You."
49 "Why were you looking for Me?" He asked. "Did you not know that I had to be in My Father's house?"
The Baptism of Jesus
Matthew 3:13-17 (BSB)
13 At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?"
15 "Let it be so now," Jesus replied. "It is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness in this way." Then John permitted Him.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!"
The Wedding at Cana
John 2:1-11 (BSB)
1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2 and Jesus and His disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother said to Him, "They have no more wine."
7 Jesus told the servants, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim. 8 "Now draw some out," He said, "and take it to the master of the banquet."
9 They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not know where it was from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, "Everyone serves the fine wine first, and then the cheap wine after the guests are drunk. But you have saved the fine wine until now!"
11 Jesus performed this, the first of His signs, at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.
The Woman at the Well
John 4:5-15 (BSB)
5 So He came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Since Jacob's well was there, Jesus, weary from His journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink." 9 "You are a Jew," said the woman. "How can You ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?"
10 Jesus answered, "If you knew the gift of God and who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."
13 Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. 14 But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life."
The Sermon on the Mount
Matthew 5:1-12 (BSB)
1 When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain and sat down. His disciples came to Him, 2 and He began to teach them, saying:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
The Feeding of the Five Thousand
John 6:5-14 (BSB)
5 When Jesus looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward Him, He said to Philip, "Where can we buy bread for these people to eat?"
8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, 9 "Here is a boy with five barley loaves and two small fish. But what difference will these make among so many?"
10 "Have the people sit down," Jesus said. Now there was plenty of grass in that place, so the men sat down, about five thousand of them.
11 Then Jesus took the loaves and the fish, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted.
12 And when everyone was full, He said to His disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over, so that nothing will be wasted." 13 So they collected them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
Jesus Walks on Water
Matthew 14:22-33 (BSB)
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds. 23 After He had dismissed them, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray.
24 Meanwhile, the boat was already far from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25 During the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea.
26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified. "It's a ghost!" they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus spoke up at once: "Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid."
28 "Lord, if it is You," Peter replied, "command me to come to You on the water." 29 "Come," said Jesus. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
31 Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of him. "You of little faith," He said, "why did you doubt?"
The Transfiguration
Luke 9:28-36 (BSB)
28 About eight days after Jesus had said these things, He took with Him Peter, John, and James, and went up on a mountain to pray. 29 As He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became radiantly white.
30 Suddenly two men, Moses and Elijah, began talking with Jesus. 31 They appeared in glory and spoke about His departure, which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 Meanwhile Peter and his companions were overcome by sleep, but when they awoke, they saw Jesus' glory and the two men standing with Him.
34 While Peter was speaking, a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is My Son, whom I have chosen. Listen to Him!"
The Triumphal Entry
Matthew 21:1-11 (BSB)
6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and laid their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them.
8 A massive crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed were shouting:
"Hosanna to the Son of David!"
"Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"
"Hosanna in the highest!"
10 When Jesus had entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?" 11 The crowds replied, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."
The Cursed Fig Tree
Mark 11:12-14, 20-25 (BSB)
12 The next day, when they had left Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if there was any fruit on it. But when He reached it, He found nothing on it except leaves, since it was not the season for figs.
14 Then He said to the tree, "May no one ever eat of your fruit again." And His disciples heard this statement.
20 As they were walking back in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from its roots. 21 Peter remembered it and said, "Look, Rabbi! The fig tree You cursed has withered."
22 "Have faith in God," Jesus said to them. 23 "Truly I tell you that if anyone says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him."
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
John 2:13-17 (BSB)
13 When the Jewish Passover was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts He found men selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and money changers seated at their tables.
15 So He made a whip out of cords and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle. He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those selling doves He said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn My Father's house into a marketplace!"
17 His disciples remembered that it is written: "Zeal for Your house will consume Me."
The Last Supper
Matthew 26:17-30 (BSB)
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining with the twelve disciples. 21 And while they were eating, He said, "Truly I tell you, one of you will betray Me."
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is My body."
27 Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in My Father's kingdom."
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
Matthew 26:47-56 (BSB)
47 While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The One I kiss is the man; arrest Him." 49 Going directly to Jesus, he said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed Him.
50 "Friend," Jesus replied, "do what you came for." Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus, and arrested Him.
51 At that moment, one of Jesus' companions drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 52 "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him. "For all who draw the sword will die by the sword."
The Crucifixion
Luke 23:33-46 (BSB)
33 When they came to the place called The Skull, they crucified Him there, along with the criminals, one on His right and the other on His left.
34 Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up His garments by casting lots.
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour. 45 The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn down the middle.
46 Then Jesus called out in a loud voice, "Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit." And when He had said this, He breathed His last.
The Resurrection
Matthew 28:1-7 (BSB)
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled away the stone, and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
5 But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; He has risen, just as He said! Come, see the place where He lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell His disciples, 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him.' See, I have told you."
The Ascension
Acts 1:6-11 (BSB)
8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
9 After He had said this, they watched as He was taken up, and a cloud hid Him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.
11 "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven."
